Installing The Underhood Light

I noticed several other coaches out there that have a light from the factory under the hood. My coach does not have one of these and it sure would make for easy service at night.

I decided to hit the junkyard last Saturday morning, and I remembered that my 99 Chevy Suburban had a really nice light under the hood. It also released from its holder and goes 25' in any direction that you want!

I MUST find one!

I did...It was on a GMC Yukon...Same thing, and after I explored a little more, I found them under the hoods of Chevy and GMC Pickups as well. The years you will find them one are from 1988 through 1999.

Below is the one you are looking for. It is located as a rule on the firewall on the passenger side.

I chose to mount mine where the factory one should have been, on the passenger side to the far side.

Sorry for the blur, it was getting dark and my camera dont like night very much. I had intended to wire the light to that switch that is there, the one on the lip by the hood, but when I attempted that, the switch turned out to be bad...I will simply install a switch under the hood, and connect the switch to the "battery positive" terminal.

The wiring on this is very easy. The orange wire is the hot, and the black is the negative. And the cable is 25' long like I mentioned, and this little bulb is very bright. It should make ti to the back of my 23' coach if I ever need it to. Make sure you get this weatherpak plug with the light, and take as much wire as possible.

This project should take less than 45 min, start to finish! (less prowling around in the junkyard)
